… 63 days to be exact. As many of you know, IGNITE the NITE is our major event aimed at raising scholarship funds for the finalists of the IGNITE Change Essay Contest. Last year, a small team planned our first annual IGNITE in less than two months with an ambitious goal of $10,000. We had no experience planning an event of this size and very little experience fundraising. With a lot of hard work, determination and the generosity of our supporters, local businesses and institutions, we surpassed that goal, which allowed us to award educational scholarships to 8 incredibly deserving young women last April. (Read about one of our finalists, Asheley Williams, here)
This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 on January 12, 2012. Funds raised will provide educational scholarships for the finalists of the IGNITE Change essay contest, Netbook personal laptops for the top three finalists and will facilitate ongoing programs for the young women we work with. While our goals for this year’s event seem infinitely more ambitious with just two months to go, we know we can do it!
We’ve worked hard over the last month to expand GLOW’s reach via Facebook, Twitter, our website and word of mouth to recruit new supporters and volunteers. We’ve carefully mapped out our needs for the event – food and alcohol donations for the event, contributions to the silent auction, individual and corporate sponsorships. We’ve pored over our notes from last year, studied fundraising strategies and tips for soliciting donations and are up to our ears in spreadsheets and lists and schedules. But we’re ready to get cracking...
...All we need is volunteers! We invite you to join our IGNITE the NITE team and welcome help in any capacity, for any amount of time, in any area. Whether it’s an afternoon hitting the streets in your neighborhood to solicit donations, a few hours reaching out to your personal contacts to share the mission of GLOW and encourage donations or sponsorship, simply spreading the word to your friends and or attending the event. No contribution is too small.
This year’s event already promises to be even better than last year (which was one hell of a party, if we do say so ourselves!). We confirmed this week that the fabulous T.Whitlow, spokesperson, actress, model and radio personality, has agreed to emcee the evening – we are thrilled to have such a fierce female hosting our big night. Up-and-coming interior designer and event extraordinaire Diana Vertus has taken the lead on styling our event space and every visual detail to ensure IGNITE is as beautiful as it is fun.
We couldn’t be happier with the team we have assembled so far – each person brings a unique talent to the table but we share a strong determination and passion for this cause. If you are interested making a contribution or in joining our team, please contact Emily Copeman at email@example.com.
